Abhishek gupta Sem 7 Project presentation

Google search was not showing this blog for “abhishek gupta”. So i included my name in the title. hehe.

Our Sem7 Project presentation was on 1st Nov, 2008. I reached college at 9.
The groups were categorized as per the project guides. Unfortunately we landed up with Dr. Bhagwat.
But fortunately Sapna mam was also there. Our proj guide was also supposed to be there but he was absent.
We were the last to present. Dr & mam maar rahe the sabki.

Our number came at 12.20pm. When i started with our basic idea of “robot following user drawn path on T.S.”, Bhagwat as usual started “yeh toh raste pe milta hai“. We explained him yeh sirf basic idea hai. Toh he asks “What is the basic idea, tell again?” Abhi kya bolneka.

Then we all explained nicely along with live demo (Tushar got nautilus working perfectly on the last day). Sapna mam was listening nicely. She also gave some suggestions. Bhagwat ka chalu tha pak-pak, but it was ok. He asked us the money spent till now.

After 10 min, everything was done & we all became silent. No questions, no answers. That was all.

We forgot to tell that we are planning to add camera too.
Dahatonde rehta toh maza aata tha. But overall it was ok.

Project summary till date

As the project presentation is coming near (1 Nov, 08), its important to have a summary of what all we have done in the project till now. Here it goes:

1. Market research for- Touchscreen, Graphical LCD.

2. Simulation of-
a.Temp sensor(DALLAS 18b20)-i. on LCD 16×2, ii. through serial comm;
b. Stepper motors testing.
c. Serial Comm.
d. Testing of RF protocol.
e. Touch screen- i. basic working, ii. on LCD, iii. through serial comm.
f. Transmission of angle & distance through serial comm.
g. Reception of data & controlling stepper motors using it.
h. Humidity calculation using input capture (Timer1 on uC).
i. Graphical LCD 128×64 using T6963 Contoller.

3. Hardware:
a. Temperature sensor.
b. RF modules (ASK 434 MHz)- i. Calculation of Max Baud rate (result= ~3000bps), ii. Testing of RF protocol (“s<angle>,<distance>”).
c. Stepper Motor testing.
d. Touch screen interface using onchip ADC.
e. Controlling Stepper motors though the received data from-
i. PC Hyper terminal,
ii. Transmitter uC (known co-ord, no Touchscreen),
iii. Transmitter uC (with Touchscreen)- (its taking the max time).

Yet to be done:
a. Controlling vehicle movement wirelessly.
b. Graphical LCD interface.
c. autonomous mode of operation.
d. Touchscreen + GLCD + RF
e. Touchscreen + GLCD + RF + autonomous mode-all put together
f. SD card interface to store survey data.
g. Camera, if possible.

Touch screen is a problem

From our decision to use touch screen in our project, it has given problems.
First was its cost- We saw all costs from $25 to Rs 650(in which we finally bought)- it required a good market research.
Second, from where to purchase- online auction, purchase to searching all the streets near lamington rd.(Thankfully Lappteck sent it by courier, otherwise we’d have to go PUNE)
When we finally got the touch screen, its connector made us run through each nook & corner of Lamington again. We finally bought it for Rs.20 and 3 hours of research.
Now, we have the complete hardware, except the graphical lcd. This week we’ll start with its interfacing and also the hardware circuit of our Nautilus, to make it alive & run.

While returning from lami we’re thinking just 1 thing- what if Mr. Dahatonde creates problems for not attending college on monday. Lets see.

Lamington visit

On 7 August, Tushar, Mihir and me went for a visit to Lamington road.
This day we discovered some new shops-
1. one for SMD components(Name: SMD, near Circuit)
2. one for graphical LCD (Name: CeePee Electronics, near Gandhi Bhuvan)-128×64 graphical LCD for Rs550.
3. one for original graphical LCDs(Name: Champion, inside Gandhi Bhuvan)-but this one is really costly. Rs 3k for 128×64 graphical LCD of Lampex company.

Gandhi Bhuvan is a big residential tower, 20 storeyed or so. So its quite a landmark in lamington.

My BE project

Tushar, Poornashree and me are doing a project named “Touch Screen Controlled Surveillance Vehicle” as our Final year project.
We have got Mr. Rahul Dahatonde as our Project guide. He was the most dreaded professor as a guide as he requires every thing to be perfect, on-time and well disciplined behaviour. So before assignment of guides all were praying “Koi bhi chalega, par Rahul nahi!”.
Chodo ab jo ho gaya woh ho gaya.
By the way, we got a comment “Very good, keep it up” by Rahul sir on our 2nd progress report.

About the project, we have already started with it (quite ahead of others at present).
Till now, we have completed the testing of RF modules, Stepper motors, & other small things.
